GMK: The Title Too Long for me to type.

Pre Review.

I promised my friend, V, I was going to watch GMK the day after watching Gamera, and it's the next day so...

This film was actually pretty good outside of the atrocious dub on the platform I used, and that's really all I got to say for for this pre review. Like usual, spoilers ahead. Enjoy!

The Movie.

This film had been on my radar for a while especially since I learned of its existence. Just the concept of it was enticing, like, you're telling me a undead Godzilla with the spirits of 30 million dead soldiers is going to fight Mothra and King Ghidorah, and Ghidorah's the hero in this film??? Hell yeah, sign me up.

Not a huge fan of Mothra in all honesty, though she was actually pretty cool (until her death) and this was the first time I learned Baragon existed and that he fought freaking Frankenstein. King Ghidorah being a good guy too was actually pretty cool and I really loved it.

The human cast was, alright, I really loved Tachiban and thought he was the best character in this film, huge fan and I'm really happy he lived to the end of the film. I also actually recognized an actor from Gamera, the dude who fell into the King Ghidorah cave was the same guy as the cop dude from Gamera 1, which is pretty neat.

One more thing before I enter specifics, I loved the soundtrack on this film, it was amazing. I really liked the use of the electronic music in the film and at the ending I liked the use of Godzilla's theme ONLY when they reveal his heart is still beating.

Baragon.

I liked Baragon and had no clue who he was prior to watching this film, as I assumed the only other kaijus would be Mothra and King Ghidorah like in the title so he was a surprise to me.

I think, for his short amount of screentime, he was actually really cool. And he was easily my 2nd favorite fight in this film, I loved every single second of it. Easily my favorite part was when Godzilla just throw his ass at the news helicopter and exploded it.

I would watch his original film of Frankenstein vs Baragon but, I'm not exactly interested it at the moment but I find this weird looking kaiju fighting Frankenstein a crazy origin.

Mothra.

I was never a fan of Mothra, I watched Godzilla vs Mothra as a kid and wasn't really a huge fan of it to be honest, but I definitely did enjoy Mothra's presence in the film.

Mothra definitely had the shortest screentime the entire film, she just shows up and gets a few good blows on Godzilla and then dies trying to sneak attack him. But she was cool nonetheless.

Easily my favorite part is when she shoots Godzilla and starts running off only to get a entire building of soldier dudes to explode into a bunch of pieces. That and taking the killing blow for King Ghidorah so he wouldn't die (yet).

Godzilla.

This is probably my favorite individual Godzilla like, ever. Sure I love Shin and Minus One but I was holding off my favorite specific Goji until I found the right one, being this one.

Even the mere concept of him is so cool dude, like, the revived 1954 (which I love) Godzilla with millions of dead soldiers and stuff is just so freaking cool. I love his design too, it's sleek and simple and looks almost just like the original, its a simple all black design with white eyes and claws and is just so badass in my opinion. I LOVE IT.

Another thing I love is just how evil he is in this film. He's targeting the civilians and wreaking havoc and fighting protectors of Earth, it's super cool and I loved each fight he had in this film.

Fighting aside, my favorite scene is Godzilla walking past the hospital with the injured lady in it, and the injured lady is freaking out and can't escape cause she broke her leg, and then Godzilla walks past the hospital ignoring her and when she calms down. BOOM!!! The mf just swings his tail and destroys the entire hospital to kill just her.

Not to mention I just love how they "killed" him in the end, Tachiban getting swallowed and shooting a drill missile thingy into Godzilla's open wound was amazing, especially how each time he tried to atomic breath Yuri and the other guy it kept shooting out his hole before dying.

And, one last thing, I loved seeing his atomic breath, I love how unlike the fire mist in 1954 it was like a huge laser shooting out of his mouth that just destroyed anything in his path. I loved how it was so powerful it killed the other kaiju's in just a couple shots and I really enjoyed the scene where it's seen by the teacher lady and is shown to have made a nuke cloud.

King Ghidorah.

The King, our favorite Venusian triple headed dragon, the hero of this film (which I still can't believe is real), and one of the coolest dudes in the entire film.

The design bro, I just love it, his suit is amazing and he looks like he's made of pure gold at times, I love the neck design for him. The scales are perfect, the eyes are amazing, just in general he looks great.

His fight vs Godzilla in the final stretch was my favorite fight in the whole film. He gets knocked out, gets back up, knocked out, gets back up, gets knocked out, gets back up and dies. It's a really long fight but it was worth it.

And I was devastated how Godzilla killed King Ghidorah at the end and the spirits (?) of him and the other 2 Guardians appear before....absorbing into Godzilla? Really I couldn't understand what happened there but it was cool nonetheless.

Final Thoughts.

This took me around 3 hours to finish just like Gamera, though, it was worth it in the end. I loved this film, it's a good monster movie and pretty well made, and I give it a solid 8.5-9/10.

Bonus!

Fun fact, the original line up for the Guardian Three was going to be Varan, Baragon and Anguirus, though Toho convinced the director to swap out Varan and Anguirus for the more well known Kaijus to attract more attention from the public, leaving Baragon the only one out of the original lineup.

Fun fact, while this movie is set in a world where the events of the 1954 film happens, they briefly reference the 1998 movie talking about an attack on New York that people think to be Godzilla, but the people of Japan don't.
