Gamera 1.

Pre Review.

So, you guys might or might not know who Gamera is. Basically he's this huge ass heroic turtle made to rival Godzilla's popularity. Is he good? That's debatable. I myself knew nothing about Gamera (as per usual) and figured I'd watch one of the movies. So I looked up the best of the 12 films and they all seem to point to the Heisei Trilogy so I'll watch it. Took me 3 hours to finish this 1:35 film since I got pretty distracted.

Spoilers ahead.

The Film.

I really don't know how to describe my feelings for this film, it was decent sure, but I wasn't really all that into it for the most part, I might've just been lazy or I just don't like the film and am pretending I do. I dunno.

I couldn't say I cared for the human cast all that much, I really liked Asagi's dad and the cop guy who got the idea for using the baseball stadium to capture the gyaos, but other than that it was kind of it.

Gamera and the Gyaos though, they were super cool, loved them. I had not seen the original Gamera vs Gyaos film and this is my first introduction to both. I was shocked at every new ability Gamera did, no clue he could fly or shoot fireballs out his mouth and I actually really loved the final fight between the omega huge gyaos and Gamera.

I think Gamera sucking in all the fire and getting...brought back to life? Honestly couldn't tell, but him reappearing was super cool and one shotting the gyaos. Speaking of, I love how the gyaos just explode into pieces like lego dudes.

Another thing I really liked was how the humans handled it, sure I found it dumb they were trying to attack Gamera and ot the gyaos, but I like how they were so quick to believe the existence of Gamera and Gyaos instead of just denying it like a lot of monster films.

Final Thoughts.

Sorry for such a short review. But, the film is short, cheesy and all around a pretty lovable and decent film and I give it a solid 7-7.5/10.
