Yeah I didn't really know what to do today, I wanted to watch Son of Godzilla but it was buffering really bad..so I went to Tubi and decided to go watch Against Mecha since it was already on my list of stuff to watch. Phenomal film by the way, and of course, spoilers ahead!.
Mechagodzilla (1 or 2 I don't remember) was the first Godzilla film I remember watching as a kid and I LOVED it, so a decade later this is the film I would show to little me back then if I had to show him one film. This was everything I would've wanted as a kid, we got a sick ass Mechagodzilla, we got him throwing hands with Godzilla, we got cool laser attacks. It's amazing.
I liked the human cast too, Akane and the Professor with Sara were the best characters in the film (shoutout to the Prime Minister too.)
Huge fan of how Goji was acting this film, he acted like a wild animal and was just doing stuff for the sake of destruction, I liked his design a ton (though not as much as the one in GMK) and he was super cool the entire film.
The roar was majestic, his atomic breath was awesome and I loved how when he was knocked out he woke up just in time to shoot Kiryu. Plus he had great fighting skills, his charge up design was super cool too with how his dorsal fins would glow individually before just spitting his breath out.
Another thing I liked was how he got his breath stopped by having his mouth clogged with a jet instead of firing anyways. The only thing I could really say I disliked was...nothing! Hell he took no time to appear on screen and he spent that time having a blast, even having a killer entrance in the middle of the weather.
Smth smth kiryu singing gif. Yakuza jokes aside, I loved Kiryu in this film. I know he's the protagonist but he really was the best part of the film. His upgraded design made him look almost Like a Dragon, not to mention when he shed his jetpack thingy to go throw hands with Goji, I started freaking out cause it was pretty much his design from the prior films and I was in love.
His weapons were super cool too, his missiles coming from everywhere was amazing, I loved the yellow maser cannon that came from his mouth, and I can't forget to mention the Absolute Zero cannon which is his coolest weapon. Like, how could you not like a energy cannon that disintegrates buildings??? Kiryu getting flipped on his back and accidentally destroying 3 buildings in a row really sold the weapon for me.
Him acting like Godzilla cause of the DNA in him was super amazing in my opinion, especially the quick flashback using footage from the 1954 film. I loved it, his hand to hand combat with Goji was easily my favorite part of the film especially when he's dodging Godzilla's attacks and stabbing him with his ram blade thing. I really loved how the moment he walked through the building like it was nothing he lost all energy and ended his rampage.
The final fight too, man, the roars from Godzilla and Mechagodzilla was like a Song of Life in my ears, using the rockets to push Goji into the water and hitting him with the absolute zero cannon and freezing the water was the cherry on top. No Judgement there.
I loved this film, it was great walking in right after GMK going from one Millenium film to the next. I would have lost my mind watching this film a decade ago. 9-9.5/10, took me almost 4 hours to watch when I was almost done with it in 2 hours, which I am ashamed of.
