Ultraman Zearth

Pre Review.

It's definitely been a while since my last film, I was gonna watch Gamera vs Guiron but I was so bored I stopped watching 30 minutes in, so maybe one day I'll finish it and review it.

I also wasn't planning on watching Zearth too much, but I felt like I neglected my one joy in life for a bit so I figured I'd go indulge in more Ultraman, and I ended up watching Zearth, it's a pretty short cheesy parody and like usual, spoilers ahead.

The Movie.

I went into this film knowing it was a comedic parody of the Ultra franchise, and it was definitely that. Yet it still managed to decently hit all the marks for Ultraman, in my opinion at least.

It had a good OST and I especially loved the flute Toru played. The monster designs were amazing too, Monster Cotton could genuinely appear in a regular Ultra series and I don't think I'd bat an eye to it. Zearth himself was also good, the team did a great job at inverting the Ultra color scheme and I honestly prefer Zearth's red design over Omega's in my opinion.

The Humans.

I know it's a comedy film but it felt like they tried to hard at times, they definitely hit the mark on parodying the defense forces but the guy in the mole was honestly just more annoying than funny in my opinion, however my favorite cene is when they figure out Monster Cotton eats gold, the guy just bites into the stack of paper he's holding for no reason??

Katsuto is so me, he was my favorite part of the film, I thought he was the funniest and I think the uniqueness of his personality was fitting, he didn't have a strong sense of justice or a strong warrior spirit like most, but was instead a goofy germaphobe, and for the type of film Zearth is it definitely made him feel more human to me.

The rest of the humans were alright though, the kids didn't do anything, the rest of the team had their roles and Toru is great with the flute, I don't have much else to say about them, though I did think the skyfalcon was a pretty goofy looking jet.

Zearth.

Going back to Zearth and not Katsuto, I'm a sucker for the guy, I loved nearly every part about him. From his funny fighting style to his transformation device, the guys who made Zearth really nailed it on the head for what it means to be a parody of Ultraman.

His design is great, loved how the red suit looked with the white and they definitely complimented eachother, I also like how his color timer looked with being a diamond kinda shape instead of a circle.

I really liked Zearth's take on the combat too, the Speciu-Shula looked really good and I enjoyed the agileness of Zearth when he was in the 2v1 with Monster Cotton and Alien Benzene and how he made the two attack eachother with their own beam attacks.

Final Verdict.

I loved this film, more than most in the Ultraman community, sure, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. From its short runtime of merely 50 minutes to the comedy, I was definitely enjoying it more than I thought I would.

For a film 50 minutes long, it took roughly an hour to an hour and a half to fully finish the film, horrifying I know. And I give the film a sweet 7/10.

See you next time, and just a reminder. Just be Ultra!
